Where to get fresh Cocoa pods,to grow my own chocolate

    Hi Guys,

Anybody know where I can get fresh cocoa pods,so I can extract the seeds and have a go at growing them, they have to be fresh or will not germinate, have done the usual google search's which comes up with montoso.gardens@yahoo.com have sent them an email but no reply yet .their web page is out of date also saying nothing available until 2011.

There must be growers in this part of Asia but cannot find them.

Just fancy making my own Chocolate from tree planting to mouth.

Check the Philippines, I know they grow them there. If you can't find them I know a guy the grows cocoa and I can put you in contact with him. He has a face book account i can give you.

    Hi Pugo,

Had a search on the Philippines and while there are lots of places to buy the actual beans, nobody seems to sell the fresh pods necessary for germination of the seeds.
I don,t have a Facebook account does he have an old fashioned email account, although I would have to check here with customs to make sure that any pods sent would not be seized.

    Thanks

    Hi,

Montoso Gardens came good! ordered four different varieties today, they normally send the seed in damp moss so germination is taken place in transit ,just waiting for delivery

How many plants are you growing out? what is the expected production of each plant? what is the projected end amount of milk chocolate you are projecting to produce in 3-5 years from now?

Re: Where to get fresh Cocoa pods,to grow my own chocolate

    Hi Dean,

I have nine trees planted in my garden and a few more in pots,my plan was to grow them on some land that I owned but because of lack of time and work commitments I have canceled this project.
Not sure on how productive they will be because I have read that the pollination is difficult and some people with trees in other parts of Thailand are getting plenty of flowers but no fruit because the gnat that transfers the pollen is absent.
So I have to wait, for the trees to mature to get the answer.
