Not if you use PEX pipe. It will freeze, but won't bust. All of my water lines are now PEX.

I use PEX for my pumped water supply (pressurized lines) in my AP systems, and PVC for the drains (gravity/non-pressure). PEX is great and I don't know people still bother with copper in their houses. I still wouldn't let freeze, especially if you use the PVC quick connect fittings.

That is exactly how I am setting my system up. Pex is not big enough for the drains.
