Another New System

Hi,

For several months now, we've been running a small recirculating aquaculture system comprising a mega bin and a Nexus Eazy Pod filter.....housing around 40 golden perch.

I'm going to set this little unit up with another filtration module based on an old 500 litre commercial particulate filter. It will be divided into 4 separate chambers to accommodate primary sedimentation, capture of suspended solids and moving bed bio-filtration. It will also function as a sump tank.

Whether I continue to use the Eazy Pod in this configuration will depend on how well the new filtration module works. For the moment, I'll probably sit it on top of the filtration module and use it as a polishing filter.....to keep the Pod biologically active as much as anything else.

This sounds like an interesting project. Shocking that you are thinking of setting aside the nexus as that is considered to be the epitome of filtration currently..But I know you and your on going search for knowledge.

Whether I utilise the Eazy Pod on this system will depend on how effective the proposed filtration module is.

My long range goal is to design and build affordable systems using off-the-shelf components.....so the use of expensive toys like the Nexus is largely transitional.

I agree, I would be hard pressed to justify a nexus in my backyard.

Hi,

The cost of filtration equipment is certainly an issue for many people......which is why I design most of my systems with a DIY bent. I guess for those people who are cashed up (but time poor), filters like the Nexus meet a need.
