Do you need to do crop rotations with aquaponics?

Been thinking of growing some chinese kale. I found this site and it states I need to do crop rotations which got me wondering if you have to either do crop rotations each season or use new grow bed material each time just to have something new to avoid dieases.

Here is a link to the plant.

    Poohbear,
Crop rotations are only necessary in soil based growing to replace the nitrogen and other minerals used by the plants in the soil by planting legumes and the like for example.
Crop rotations are definitely NOT required in AP because the full spectrum of nutrients is available at all times. You may have to add a little mineral supplement (such as Chelated Iron and the like as in other threads on this forum).
Accordingly you do not need to replace GB material. In fact, it would be a retrograde step to replace GB media becuase you would have to start the cycling process all over again. Murray has had GB media going for years without changing, and getting better crops, because of the stability of an established system in the GB.

If you don't break the rules . . . there would be no such thing as innovation!
