    It Works!!

I finally got the Bell Siphon built that hamish made a drawing of ..... I had to convert all of the sizes, so I wasn't too sure I would get it right, but I tested it tonite and it worked like a champ!! Another couple of days and I will have my system up and running .... Finally!! My 5 goldies will look real lonesome in that huge 50 gallon Rubbermaid, but I'm planning to switch to Tilapia anyway and one or two Marmorkrebs, since I found out that I won't be eating carp until they're two years old ..... I'm not that patient .... I want fish now .

BTW, I did make a few design changes to the Bell Siphon, so that was another concern about whether it would work, but I'm happy with the way it's performing, so what more can I say !. Thanks for the pics and the info!

    Re: It Works!!

Well, I got rid of the Bell Siphon and went to No-Holes Siphons. The Rubbermaid was so deep and so weak, that the lava rock and pea-gravel media made it bulge out about 4 inches on each side ..... that worried me because if it burst, I would be in a huge amount of dung ..... plus, the wife would kill me ....... I went and bought a couple of trays that are 6" deep and I'll use them with the No-Holes Siphons instead of the Bell Siphon ..... it also doubled my grow-bed capacity for more greens. That was a nice bonus I'll have to see if I can build a 2x2 cage around the Rubbermaid before I can use the Bell siphon again They are just too weak for my tastes. So anyways, we're planting sprouts and starts, and the Goldies are having fun in the new, larger digs ..... I just bought 11 more ..... We've got lettuce, spinach(yuk!), cukes, beans, watermelon, squash, and some herbs growing. When we find out how successful this is, we've got plans to expand so we can get more food 'n' fish growing!
