Hey guys,
Murray asked me to join the forum as the token teacher/school rep for aquaponics. I'm a teacher at Mt Gravatt High in Brisbane and we have a smaller version of Murray's system in our greenhouse.
Murray, your tomatoes are looking fantastic. Ours have grown almost 30cm in about a month and they're just starting to flower now (were planted as seedlings). The pak choi we planted is going great guns although we've developed an aphid problem - does seasol kill aphids? We've been looking at ladybeetles and green lacewings as biological control but in the short-term seasol might be quicker.
Our barramundi suffered from the temperature drop as well - we're running 2 300w heaters to keep the temp around 27 degrees (not very energy efficient but we needed a fast solution) and it's working well.
Question - if you up the feed do you have to wait for more bacteria to grow to convert it? We starting feeding a little more and we had another couple of nutrient spikes.
Still learning... it's good fun!
B
