    My baby system

This is my first system, hopefully the first of many. All parts sourced from the big box store for less than $50. So far salad greens and swiss chard doing well. I just planted golden cherry tomatoes, watermelon radishes, purple basil and atlas carrots as well as marigolds for pest control.

    Re: My baby system

At the moment I am using goldfish. I have lost a few as the system settles in. It is winter here (such as it is,nearly 80f today) and I put this together to learn with. Everyone says start small and work up so that's what I'm doing. Seems to be working so far. I'm sure this size system will not make it through the summer here so I am planning a larger system based on a 300 gal rubbermaid tub.

In a mad land grab I have doubled the acreage of my system. This brings me closer to a 1 to 1 ratio of grow bed to fish tank. Updates to come.

Thank you all. Yeah, I'm addicted. Yes, they are disposable cement mixing tubs-- very reasonably priced at the big box store. From purchase to installing the plumbing to washing the gravel to online and running-- about four hours. I added some Stability bacteria and about two gallons of rain water and all seems well. Ready for more seeds.
