    Pumps

    Hi folks,

I'm looking at the Aqua Bee variety of pumps the UP 5000, 6,000 and 7,000 models, selling for $285.00, $320.00 and $332.50.

Does anyone know if these are any good, how good and suitable for aquaponics?

    Thanks for your help

    Cheers.

    Hi

    bigdaddy

Your budget for pumps is a lot higher than mine. Pumps of that price are out of my price range. My favourite pump is this one.

    Hi Rudy,

I haven't come across that one before. It's certainly priced right.

I usually suggest that, when running cheap Chinese pumps, you have a spare on hand. In fact, it's a useful thing to do regardless of how much you spend. Even the best of them will go belly up.....sooner or later.

    Hi Joey,

    Thanks for your reply,

If you have had no troubles in 12 months and even at 56.00 for 2 plus 7.50 P&H Seems to make sense to me..Are they really that quiet?...

    Anyone know about the AquaBees?

    Cheers.

    Hi Big Daddy

Their postage and handling is closer to $40.00 rather than $7.50 that is why I commented that their postage is a excessive. I have just ordered four more pumps as I intent to phase out some some air pumps and use water pumps instead. I also wish to have a couple of spares. The postage for a larger order does not increase much that way the pumps are cheap. These pumps are quiet.

    Cheers

Ouch! At that rate, things need to start off cheap.

It's an interesting business model.....selling things cheap and making your money on the P&H.

I'm looking at the Aqua Bee variety of pumps the UP 5000, 6,000 and 7,000 models, selling for $285.00, $320.00 and $332.50.
BD....I use a variety of pumps....from JHQ pumps at $55.00 each.....up to the Laguna Power Jet 6000 at $259.00.

The principal difference between the cheap pumps and the more expensive ones is the length of warranty.

I've found that running pumps in clean water (having them in a sump at the end of the water path) extends their life.

Reliability is always going to be an issue for small submersible pumps....regardless of their price.

I'm probably heading toward the use of external pumps or cheap submersibles like the JHQ ones (and a very good back up system).

I may even go for one of these axial flow pumps as my system grows.
