Here are my plans for a public urinal deep urban hydroponic system.
Just kidding.

Hey! That could be the fish-less system the new guy is dreaming up are you stealing ideas? ..LOL :P
All system tests are now recorded at http://aquaponics.scorched-revolution.com/ So if you are interested in my system tests. go there
Hi,
In other places, it's known as peeponics. There's lots of interesting (if somewhat impractical) variations on the theme......like pooponics (AKA CHOP 2).

Now I just need to build a Jenkem powered water heater.

Hi,
If you put human waste (indeed virtually any organic waste) in a plastic bag and deny it oxygen, it will create biogas. Biogas is a combination of other gases......notably methane, carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulphide.
Neither methane nor carbon dioxide is toxic (but nor will it sustain life as we know it) but hydrogen sulphide is very nasty stuff. Methane mixed with air (in the range of 5% - 15%) is explosive.
Sniffing biogas out of a plastic bag may be hallucinogenic but you run the risk of asphyxiation.....or blowing your head off.

I was working at one of the TV stations mentioned on the wiki that ran the hoax story (WINK TV). That producer was an idiot. You can't always take the cops at their word.
Human, and for that matter animal urine (including that of fish) can be used as a fertilizer - in small doses. http://www.scientificamerican.com/ar...ive-fertilizer and http://www.ehow.com/how_4701584_use-...ertilizer.html
The concentration of nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus in human is quite high. I has to be much diluted 1:10 or more. Here is a link on how it can be done. http://www.popsci.com/environment/ar...loser-we-think
After all, one of the things we do in aquaponics is to convert the fish pee to feed our plants. The same principles apply to other forms of urine.
Hi,
I agree that human waste has a place in the scheme of things, however, I'd advise as much separation as possible.
I'd steer clear of using urine, for example, in any relatively closed system (like aquaponics).....particularly if the donors are taking any medication.
