Here's a couple of photos of my "GROFISH" system I built for a friend.
Some modifications have been made since these photos and it now has a second fishtank and happily housing a range of wild Borneo freshwater fish and starting to produce a range of veges.
The system is based on 200 litre (ex-biodegradable detergent) drums. I cut the drums and made the frames from Borneo hardwood (Meranti ?) treated, stained and laquered.
I'm quite proud of the results as this is only the second system I have made/sold. Previously I have made about 4 Hydro (PVC) systems and two AP systems I use at home.
It's not a bad hobby and I make some pocket money and have made new friends with like minded people here. I also make compost tumblers from the drums to sell as well as large palm pots.
As with the other systems I have made here in Brunei this system had fish in it within days of filling the growbeds with gravel. Cycling wasn't a problem with a gradual introduction of fish numbers and plants. Maybe we are just lucky here in Brunei to have hardy fish like Tilapia and whatever other freshwater species are in the tanks of this system. I've counted about 6 separate types of fish so far.
