    World Aquaponics Association

    Hi,

The Aquaponics University discussion has wandered off into banter about the formation of the Aquaponics Association that is to be launched at the Aquaponics Conference in Florida.

What is an aquaponics association going to do for its members?

If Australian aquaculture finds itself unable to unite under a single banner (and it's a multi-million dollar industry), what is the likelihood of aquaponics (which is largely a a gaggle of backyarders - and a subset of aquaculture after all) going to achieve that's different.

Call me cynical, but I smell a grab for greatness about to happen here.

Who wants to give me odds on which self-appointed aquaponics guru will be the foundation President of the new World Aquaponics Association?

    .. uhh.... ohh.. Colle Davis ??? ...
It WOULD be a great marketing push if an association can be established and the SALESMEN gets pushed through certifications to be used as their CLAIM to be the best the only and so forth.... a lot of american suburbers would eat that raw.... and spend WAAAY more than they should for a system that is " certified" by the USAPA or whatever they end up calling it... :P

should we call for the formation of the WORLD ONLINE ASSOCIATION OF AP PRACTICIONERS ?? :P

could be worse... could have been " all participants required to invest 20.000 USD in Davis' portable farms !" :P

whatever that is ... ill actually sit on the fence and wait to see what the practical applications of the formation is ..

    Re: World Aquaponics Association

    "To serve and protect" hehe
    Most associations, organisations, unions....................
    Ultimatly is about protecting,defending,lobby,.............

I think that's OK, for the most.

The "funny" thing here is that some - one/body, seems to claim the ownership to "Aquaponic" as in trying to re define the word, or more narowing the meaning as such.
    What is aquaponics : http://aquaponicscommunity.com/page/what-is-aquaponics

I gues thats OK to, in sweden they call it kretsløp(cycle)odling(farming).
In Norway we (some), have been doing it(ap) for ages, and we(some) still are, without the need of a spesific term(word) to define AP, it's yet another way of agri/aqua culture, not a new invention, simple as that.

Anyhow the association are free to define, what they acssept/reject as AP pr def.
Most AP'ers I know are small home or nichemarked growers, hardly ever atend forums, and would most likely call them selfe, green, environement friendly, or maybe permaculture growers.

    cheers
