I have several chilli plants from the same batch of seeds, one is growing hydroponically in a 20l bucket, with an airstone (DWC). This is in my dining room, has grown about 4-5' high and has been producing green chillies for several months now. I have used s combination of shaking the plant, and a cotton bud to perform polination.
In my office i have a desktop system that runs on a flood and drain basis, it has a plant that has been heavily pruned to keep it a managable size, its main light source is a floruesent tube, and the food source is 4 goldfish, + a little seasol. This plany has been flowing for some time now, however the flowers have no pollen, I have read up on this but not found any conclusive answers, my PH has got a little low, so i've added a little crushed oyster shell to the system to buffer it up. Other reasons i have heard for flowers not producing, was too much light, i was providing 18hours per day, i have reduced this to 12-14, and i have also started misting the plant to try and increase humidity. I have some replacment florusent tubes on the way, (red) as this is more suited to fruiting plants.
Is there anything else i could/should be trying to get this plant producing chillies? Has any one else come accross their chilli plant flowering but producing no pollen?
Incase it makes any difference this is a Birds Eye Chilli plant.
