Has anyone kept prawns in an AP setup?

Prawns are easy to come by here in Brunei. The rivers are full of them and a lot of backyarders sell them as bait. I guess you would have to keep a lot of them in the tank to produce enough nutrient.

I have also seen "lobsters" in the pet shops. They seem to be freshwater crayfish and spend their time eating dead fish of each other. I'm not sure of growth rates but I'm sure they would be good to eat as the Chinese food stalls in Miri (Sarawak) often have them in their tanks.

Hi guy's, have a look at CHERABIN also,we use to catch them in the mitchell river west of cairns.They grow very big and are great to eat ,I'm not sure how far south they would be able to handle though.

Do prawns eat each other.?

I've kept M. Rosenergii. They do eat each other if not given enough room. Females do better with each other than males. In a cubic yard there can be no more than one male. When the males mold the others males go after them and have them for dinner. I don't think they are effective waste converters unless co-cropped with tilapia. If you put the fish in screened cages and put the prawns on the bottom, the prawns can eat the fish poop and left over food and it works out.
