Al in Mandurah - Starting up from scratch (including experience!)

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Hi,
I'm just about to set up in the back yard.
Have put up a 9m x 4m green house frame that will house a 3m x 2m fish shed, 3m x 2m green house for aguaponics grow beds, NFT, and seedlings frame, 3m x 4m raised sheet beds and 3m x 4m for chooks and eventually quail.
One thing at a time though.
Hope to have the structure finished in the next week or so and then start with re-circ aquaculture quarantine tank in a bath tub. Then add bigger tank with grow beds. Chooks will be easier and sheet beds too so they will probably be up and running sooner.
Has any one got a good place for fingerling purcases in W.A. preferably south of the river?
Any one used Black Bream in aquaculture?
Any ideas or hints for the above system would be great.
    Thanks.
    Al

Well Al it sounds like you've taken the first step just fine, you started. It looks like you have a good plan so far. If you can post up a picture it helps people visualize what your doing. So far so good. Welcome to the forum.

Thumbs up Re: Al in Mandurah - Starting up from scratch (including experience!)

    Thanks Jason,

I only have net access from the office so will post pix when I remember to bring them in.

The info here is awesome. Thanks.

Got the frame up, leveled and cemented into place with archetrave in place over the weekend. Bought sheeting and ready to get it looking like something useful.

Just need to figure out what to use for fish tanks. and install before covering it all in.

    IBC's or brick with liner?

Does anyone know where IBC's can be bought in Perth / Mandurah at reasonable prices?
I have seen some at $199 each but have heard of them being about half that...

At $200 each I am thinking I would get better life out of brick with linner at about the same cost (free bricks).

    Any suggestions?

.....or you could get a mega bin for about $300 and it would be much better all round........no work, portable, strong, proven, etc.

I agree with Gary here, I spend a lot of effort doing things the hard way. I am so glad I bought my mega bins.

Unhappy Re: Al in Mandurah - Starting up from scratch (including experience!)

    Thank you both,
Any hints as to where to get one in WA?
This type of work I enjoy, budget constraints passed down by the minnister for finance and war are the main restrictive paramiter for me.

Not that I am ignoring your advice.
System upgrades will be planned in and undertaken as permitted.
Should I re-name myself UTT? (Under the thumb)

    Hi,

Contact Viscount Plastics (in Sydney I think) and ask them who their WA distributor is.

Should I re-name myself UTT? (Under the thumb)
No need.....it's a generic term to describe men in general.....and something that most of us can relate to.
