    Hi,

I clean the Nexus 300 attached to this system about once a week......usually on a Sunday. The capacity of this thing, for solids removal, is truly remarkable. I'm almost sorry that it's been sold.

    Hi,

On Sunday, I finally decommissioned the Big Nexus system.

It contained 89 jade perch......and we processed 49 of them and relocated the remaining 40 fish to our Combo System.

The processed fish ranged in size from 320g to 530g for an average weight of 425g.

Based on the average weight, I calculate that the total fish biomass in this system was 37.82kg.

Is cleaning the filter very involved? How long approximately did it take to do it each time?

    Hi Maelstrom,

By the time we dismantled it, we had the cleaning operation down pat. I'd stir up the packed media section of the filter for about 5 - 7 minutes (that was a simple matter of opening a small air valve). Then I'd drain the effluent from the filter....before topping up the system with fresh rainwater. The whole deal took about 15 minutes.

We cleaned it weekly and, during hot weather, being near the tub into which we dumped the watery solids was like standing alongside a flatulent elephant.

The filter took several weeks to settle down properly.....to the point where the K1 media got nice and sticky. At that stage, it worked a treat.

    Hi Shane,

I ate the first two of them last night. Nice fat little fish.

I'm keen to grow the remaining 40 of them out - possible to filleting size.
