I am curious why do they give so much head room to the birds in the west, it is considered dangerous as the birds can fly up and harm themselves, like broken necks and what have you. All over Asia cages are just 6 to 8 inches high to prevent injuries to the birds.

But the birds do look wonderful..

    Hi Pugo,

All over Asia cages are just 6 to 8 inches high to prevent injuries to the birds.
The pen in which these birds live is 6' x 4' (1800mm x 1200mm)....and about 300mm - 400mm high.....and the head room is more about us being able to access it for cleaning, etc. They don't bump their heads.

The pen size in Asia is more about putting a larger number of birds into a given space.
