    Organic Stock Feed

    Hi,

If you're looking for organic stock feed for your chickens, sheep/goats, cattle, etc.....you might want to contact Country Heritage Feeds.....here. They have stockists in every state of Australia.

Another option is Aus Organic Feeds.....here. They also have a (smaller) national distribution network with stockists in most states.

Thanks Gary for the links. Have you tried any of the quail rations yet?

    Hi Mark,

No.....we've used the chick starter/grower ration for our quail. We're trialling the use of a single ration for all of our chickens and quail.

    Gary,
Wondering don't quail need a higher protein level than they can get for Chicken crumble or Grower ration? Although to be honest I know the quail farmers in the Philippines use chicken feed a lot.

    Hi Pugo,

In the past (in the absence of specific quail rations), we've used a premium layer mash and boosted the protein levels using soybean or meat meal.

The organic chick starter that we can now access has a protein level of 20% and starts off being a better ration that the commercial non-organic equivalent. We'll supplement it with duckweed and silver beet and periodic treats of worms or fly larvae.

    Interesting Gary,

What does the chick starter cost you? I bet it goes close to the cost of barastoc quail rations.
    Cheers!

In the Philippines they start chicks off at 28% protein, so most of the time they go for turkey started which is the same level.. then it goes down to something like 26% or 22% percent protein for layers I don't remember right off.
