    The Microponics Report

    Hi,

We've just put together a different type of post on our Microponics site.

    It's called The Microponics Report.

We started out to produce an email newsletter but we wanted something different and The Microponics Report is the result.

The best way that I can describe it is to say that it's a podcast with pictures.

Anyway, it's something new in aquaponics circles.....and we hope you like it.

Extremely interesting video Gary, I see you and I are on the same road.. you are just a few miles farther ahead of me.
After years of being married my marriage ended. After a while I just gave up and became an Expat and moved to the Philippines. Which is a wonderful place to live if you know what you are doing. I would never tell anyone to move there without giving them a heads up on what lays in store for them if they make that choice.

At any rate I am an English teacher working in Taiwan building the capital to go back and start again.. there as I do really love the place.. I am planning I starting a quail farm which is a good business and of the last few months I have found out about Aquaponics or what you call microponics. As I am more geared towards fish than vegetables. But as I looked over you system.. it is the best idea I have seen to date I can't understand why people could not see this right off.
All system tests are now recorded at http://aquaponics.scorched-revolution.com/ So if you are interested in my system tests. go there

    Hi Pugo,

I'm pleased you enjoyed The Microponics Report.

But as I looked over you system.. it is the best idea I have seen to date I can't understand why people could not see this right off.
While people are attracted to the notion of producing their own fish and plant (and aquaponics), the real leverage in integration comes from expanding the number of organisms in the integration.

It will take a while for most converts to aquaponics to get their head around the integration of just fish and plants. Some will never go past that.....but others will eventually want to expand the types of food that they can produce and that's when they start to make the connection with quail, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, etc.

The decision to keep a couple or three laying chickens, for example, transforms the range of dietary choices. Eggs are so versatile as a food.

I describe quail as the quintessential small-holder's micro-livestock. They take up very little space, they grow quickly and their meat and eggs are delicious. Get yourself a small incubator and a few quail and you are in the meat and eggs business.

    Gary,
I plan on making my home in the Philippines, Which is a poor country. Many people think they can just move there and everything will be perfect then they find out that life there is much harder than they realized. Integrated farming is a must if you want to be successful, Chickens are not profitable for a small farm, Feed costs are to high in the Philippines unless you go commercial which is really the only way. But Quail farming is very profitable I have spent two years studying this subject of Quail Farming.

I would really like to bring Aquaponics to the Philippines, and show others how it can improve there lives.

I'd like to visit the Phillipines. What are the issues with living there?

Integrated farming is a must if you want to be successful, Chickens are not profitable for a small farm, Feed costs are to high in the Philippines unless you go commercial which is really the only way. But Quail farming is very profitable I have spent two years studying this subject of Quail Farming.
Quail farming is probably just as difficult as aquaponics when it comes to commercialising it in Australia. The labour intensive nature of both make them better suited to micro-farming. Coupled with other integrations (like rabbits, guinea pigs, worms, duckweed, BSF larvae, hydro fodder, etc) they have the capacity to cost effectively provide vital protein......and a prospective surplus that can be sold or bartered.

I would really like to bring Aquaponics to the Philippines, and show others how it can improve there lives.
A very worthwhile goal, in my view.

    Re: The Microponics Report

If you are visiting nothing to worry about, But living there on a permanent basis is a very different. So many cultural differences from western living and marrying a woman has its good points and its bad.. When you marry a Filipina you marry her family too. and many times they will expect you to support them as you are the rich son in law so you become the family ATM. Which is much more that many guys are ready for.. then you have the crab mentality which will make you crazy. The word loan is used like gift because you will not see your money again. There are many things to learn before you go there to live.. But once I move back to the Philippines you would be more than welcome to come visit.. I sure you would love it..

    Hi Pugo,

Thanks for the heads up on life in the Phillipines (it may come in handy if I have to get rid of Jan).....and for the invitation.
