    Serendipity

    Hi,

Feeding our chickens kitchen scraps produced some pumpkin plants which....coupled with periodic doses of watery solids and plenty of rain.....produced a couple of barrow loads of pumpkins.

Next year, we'll do it all deliberately. I wonder if we'll achieve the same result.

Nice work, you've got to love the self sprouting crop. Think of all that baked pumpkin and pumpkin soup!

    Hi Ulli,

The thought of all of that baked pumpkin and pumpkin soup is the reason that all of those pumpkins are now in the back of my car.......ready for distribution to my work colleagues tomorrow.

    Hi John,

I think they're called Queensland Blue pumpkins.

    Hi,

Currently, our back paddock is waist high in grass and weeds......and features a substantial network of pumpkin vines.

A few weeks ago, we harvested a couple of wheelbarrows of pumpkins. At the time, I said that they were Queensland Blues but it turns out they are Jap pumpkins.

When i went to clear some vines from a makeshift path around the back of our shed, I noticed that more pumpkins had grown. Further investigation revealed heaps of them.

They're not quite ripe yet but there's at least another barrow load of them.....and possibly more.....likely to be ready in a couple of weeks.

    Hi Pugo,

No grow beds but plenty of fish. The pumpkins grew where we drain the watery solids from our shed-based fingerling system.......so no shortage of fish poop to fuel the pumpkin plants.

    Re: Serendipity

    Hi,

About a week ago, we were wandering around our half acre back paddock and we found some more pumpkins........lots more pumpkins. We had already harvested two barrow loads several weeks before.

We took the trailer load to the nearest food bank (caters to flood victims and other folks who are doing it tough) and the carload I took to work.

Suffice to say, we're delighted with the return that our wild-sown pumpkin vines (powered by fish poop) have yielded. Now that's something you can't do in a 300mm grow bed.

Those are an expensive vegetable in the Philippines, that would be worth some nice pocket money there, they are not so expensive here in Taiwan but they are well loved by the locals and myself very tasty. Those pictures are making me hungry just looking at them thanks for sharing..
