Gypsy's Water Farm - A Miniature Aquaponic Garden

    WELCOME TO THE WATER FARM

This an experiment to gain knowledge in Aquaponics...

I am using two 1 gallon tanks with a Beta Fish and a Bamboo Shrimp in each.

There is gravel at the bottom and a few ornaments to provide some shelter...

Airstone and pump on 24/7... and lights on when I am awake...

The fish have been named Alpha Beta and Beta Beta, respectively...

The shrimp, after surviving 2 nights with Alpha & Beta, have become full time residents, and as such, have been named Bam & Boo... in honor of their ancestors...

Alpha & Bam's tank has sprouted and rooted 1 pod of Arugula, 1 pod of Tomatoes, 1 pod of mixed Arugula & Tomatoes and 1 pod of Canhamo, a Brazilian medicinal herb I use for pain...

Now it is sprouting 2 pods of Peppermint, 1 pod of Chives, 1 pod of unknown kitchen herbs and 2 pods of Canhamo holding 2 seedlings and 2 clones that never took and I am trying to nurse back...

Beta & Boo's tank is new so this is the first task they've had...
They are sprouting 6 seeds that were given to me by an old hippie... lol

So the plan is that when the seedlings are well established and have a proper roots system, I will move the pods into a miniature DWC set-up...

That system is comprised of a "shoe box" tupperware, with holes cut out of the lid to fit the foam pods and an airstone w/ pump, bubbling away in to the Arctic night....

From there, they may be moved to buckets, but I expect I will be able to keep things small and controlled...

I am using the "fish water" to replenish the DWC, and so far I have noticed no need for additional nutrients... though I am sure that time will come... it is just a couple of betas...

Well, I will stop rambling and let you see some pictures...

    I hope you like them...

So pull up a chair... we're gonna be here for a while...

And things are bound to get interesting...

    Welcome to the Water Farm...

    Till next time...

    Be Well...

    Gypsy...

One more... than I will move on to some of today's pictures...

So this is how I germinate single seeds... (the bigger ones)

6 foam pods that slide in and out...and it makes it very easy to check on the seedlings...

Also fed by "fish water", the bubbleponics ice bucket is a nice touch... and it works well...
