Does anyone have any advice on the best material for a fish tank? We can get a concrete tank and half bury it in the ground. We've also looked into getting an old fiberglass hottub. Would appreciate any advice!![]()

FG is neutral as far as pH is concerned. Concrete tanks can have the effect of pushing the pH up. But in the end, get whichever is easiest to install and manage in your particular situation.
As you get more experience you will discover that you never have enough tanks....grab both of them.![]()
Our tap water pH is 8.4 and the FT is running 8.2. So you think concrete might push it up more?
It usually does, unless the concrete is very old and well seasoned.
Do you know if the large rubbermaid tanks have any issues with pH or ??
Would not think there would be pH probs with Rubbermaid. I have seen in posts somewhere that folk from the US use Rubbermaid products for their aquaponics projects. We do not have Rubbermaid here in Aussie
in south oz we have alot of wineries down south so i am using 4 grape transport bins which are 2800lt rectangular tanks 2.2m x 1.2 x 1.1m high brand new $550 plus build a basic support with scrap metal and bingo.(if buying the steel cost for 1 frame would be about $20. PH isnt a problem as the bin liners are food quility poly something. perfect i will post a pic when i finish my set up and i learn how to do it
Concrete is good, so is FG.
I am a little biased toward FG as I have been building FG boats for 30 + years. FG is very durable.
