Trout Brisbane

I am trying to arrange to get some trout to Brisbane.
A Victorian forum member who wishes to remain anonymous is willing to drive the trout from Bendigo to Brisbane. The trout will be in blue barrels with oxygen supplied to the fish for the journey.
To make it viable for fuel etc we need to be able to split up 800 trout at 2.00 each delivered to Brissie. I think it is pretty amazing and generous of the member to offer to undertake such a trip.

There will be half Rainbow and half Brown trout.
The trout are several months old so they are good size of between 2 and 3 inches.

I need firm commitments please within the next 3 days.

Please be clear, that once committed to a number of fish there is no backing out, even if in the event of the worst, they all arrive dead.

It will be a risky adventure, but, imagine the excitement of having a tank of trout here in Brissie.

The hatchery says that a block of ice placed in the fish tank to keep the temp to 22 or lower will work fine here in Brissie as spring and summer come.
Rainbows are evidently more sensitive to temp and traveling than are the Browns.

The rainbows are at plate size in about 6 months, that is about 600 g plus.
Evidently they are really good feeders and are a fun fish to raise. Evidently they put on quite a show at feeding time.
The Browns take about 9 months. According to all that I have been told they are much faster than Silvers.

But I hasten to add, It will be new territory for all of us here in SEQ.

It may prove to be a very exciting and fun exercise, or it may turn out to be something else. Not for the faint hearted. But definitely for the adventurous souls amongst us......

I visited a trout farm during my Intro Aquaculture course down here last year. They go nuts on their food. Since their diet profile is so well understood growth rates of 1kg weight gain for 1kg food are common. Unlike Jades and Silvers tho, it all gets converted to meat, not fat.
Anecdotally, the browns are a bit more heat tolerant and live longer than the rainbows. The rainbows grow quicker tho. Both are ripper eating but must be purged.
They sound like an ideal winter fish for aquaponics, heavy feeders that will adequately feed plants like ur caulis broccoli and other winter greens.
