OMEGA FISH PRODUCTS FINE-TUNES AQUAPONICS
Lewiston-based Omega Fish Products is working on improved efficiencies with its recirculating aquaponics operation. The system will currently produce $100 worth of fish and basil using 175L of water. This can be compared with producing $100 worth of wholesale milk, which requires 145,000L of water. The Omega Products facility consumes electricity to the value of only $6 daily. The company has been working with aquaponics for some 12 years. The farm produces flowers, Chinese spinach, bok choy, various lettuces, basil and spring onions, using the waste stream produced by the fish being grown. Omega Fish Products is currently seeking interested people to join the operation's expansion push and to help find market outlets.
