Just starting some help required.

Hi, I have checked out some of the threads, but due to time constraints, eg due at work soon, a couple of quick questions.
Firstly I have found a used IBC from our local farm supply merchant, it has held chemical, likely to be either pesticide or herbicide, so any ideas how to clean it out? The sales assistant suggested using bleach and rinsing it out a few times before starting up, will this work and neutralise any residues that may be left behind?
Also plumbing wise, I would like to set up the flood and drain system, is there anywhere I can find info on parts required and how to put it all together, sorry first time, so these questions may have already been asked, if so just guide me to the thread.
I am in Western Australia, so was wondering what variety of fish and where I could source them as well? Katanning is where I live, and the weather here is cold in winter down to minus 3 sometimes, and quiet hot in summer up to 40 odd or more on the odd occassion.

I personally wouldn't touch an IBC with pesticides or herbicides. I'm not someone with heaps of experience, just my opinion. Pay a little bit more for a food grade 1. Any residue will have a long time to soak and get into your food system.

I too would not touch an IBC with pesticides or herbicides in it...but if you had too most are water soluble so a through rinsing over and over theoritcally could work. That being said I myself have a self made IBC tote system. I have plenty of pictures. Thanks for your answers and ideas, I did go to check out what chemicals had been in the IBC, but they could not sell it in the end, which was fine in the end. When I asked if he could find me one that was food grade and 2nd hand he tried his suppliers who quoted him $540.00 for one IBC, I nearly choked then. Decided to try elsewhere, so will keep looking. Would prefer to get it local, as not keen on another 3hr trip to Perth. Thanks also for your threads to follow.

A lot cheaper than $540 per. Shame you don`t live in Vic, lots for sale, and cheap into the bargain

Hi Sandy,

I am new at aquaponics and I went to a tank supplier and asked for the old tanks that had been removed, and cut these up. I had to patch some holes but so far all is good. I used old rain water tank stands as the base to sit them on. I think they were selling them off for scrap metal and were a much cheaper option even if transportig them was a little tricky.
