    Re: Start up info

    Hi Rodney,

Thank you so much for this info!!!! I am in Bacchus Marsh and have been furiously researching more local suppliers. I only discovered aquaponics late last year, and have been keen to start since!!! Now that I know that there is a "local" (driving distance...) supplier, the next hurdle is the area where it is going - already have an area that was supposed to be a greenhouse, I think (bought the house last March) - full of weeds and rubbish. I think cleaning that up will be the biggest hurdle. I am also planning on putting pool fencing around it all - 4 kids ranging from 1 - 7 & apart from the drowning risk, I don't wish to have dirt kindly placed in the grow beds.... Will I be pushing my luck to ask what fish you are stocking and where you got them from? Thanks for the info again, and good luck with your system...now out to start the cleanup!!!

    Hi Nicci
An enthusiastic response, good to hear from you.
Climate here is very similar to you, so the answer is Silver Perch
They have been a bit hard to get, but there is a breeder in Glenburn/ Yarra Glen who should have some fingerlings available about now:John 5797 8384
You can get them from interstate but the freight is a bit dear.
I have a few goldies at the moment and they are very healthy.
To keep the pond kid proof, just put a sheet of builders or concreters reinforcing mesh over the top. Keep a lookout on building sites, there is often some left over after a slab has been poured.
    Post some photos
    cheers
    Rodney
