Question Where can I buy some soldier flie larvae

I am new to this and at present just getting all the parts needed to put a Ap system together.I am going to set a sepereate tank up this week end for duck weed and azolla as I have found a source close by and also would like to build a set up for some soldier flies but I have not noticed any around so I was hoping to get hold of some to start breeding.I asked at a couple of stores today but didnt have any and hadnt even heard of them nore there suppliers.

    Hi Dingorunner,

Black Soldier Fly larvae are known commercially as Phoenix Worms and pet stores quite often stock them under that name. They are used as live food by herpetologists and specialist bird-keepers.

I breed plenty of them but I'm just getting back into live ones now that weather is getting warmer. In fact, I've just noticed juvenile BSF in my compost bin in the last couple of days. In colder weather, we feed out frozen larvae.

If you create the conditions for them to strike.....an open source of rotting vegetables or kitchen s****s......they'll find you soon enough.

You'll know when they've hit your compost bin.....the vegetables and s****s will begin to turn black and the volume of waste will reduce quickly. You'll soon find that you'll be hard pressed to keep up with them.
