Still haven't caught the possum, but he hasn't been back to attack my vegies recently?
Possibly someone else in the area has caught him? not sure?
Have replanted all the damaged vegies & they are all progressing well. Also plonked two small tommies in too.
Snow peas are producing & I'm getting lettuce every 2nd day.
Sowed some more seeds (in vermiculite/small pots to transfer in coming weeks) & the assorted lettuces, broc's & a single zuc have already sprouted.
Cat's & Silvers feeding daily & growing well, Silvers now range from approx 75mm to 110mm. The Catfish are more uniform in size & are approx 80-90mm.
Cheers,
Shane.
Good to see things are happening Shane. You can expect plenty of growth in your fish now that the warmer weather is on the way.

I must be growing the nicest tasting vegetables in the neighbourhood,
Because that darn possum is back munching his/her little heart out on them![]()
Hi Shane,
You can purchase some welded mesh and zip tie it together to form a cage over your system. That will put paid to your furry little mate.

Snow peas continue to boom, have always done well with them in AP.
Been chowing through lots of lettuce, also throwing assorted lettuce into the FT for the Silver Perch daily for them to feed on as well as the pellets.
Celery continues to do well, but I've got some sort of brown spots forming on the leaves? I'm not sure what it is or a fish safe way of treating it? I'll try to take some pic's this weekend of it.
Megabin system is running perfectly but still not complete, Despite a couple of phone calls & emails to a Melbourne distributor I can still not get a price or approx delivery time for an additional GB + componentry....I've now totally given up on them after being as patient as possible for 15 weeks!....thats just poor service IMO.
I will now go the DIY direction for an additional small GB.
Silvers & Catfish continue to grow (albeit slowly), with both the weather & tank temps now beginning to climb no doubt I'll see that accelerate in coming months (something to look forward to)
Hope everyone has a great Aussie Rules Grand Final Replay weekend.
Cheers,
Shane.
Hi Shane,
If I had to pick a single item that offers versatility to backyard farmers it would have to be the mega bin. I use three of them in my mega bin system.....and I've used them for water catchment and duckweed tanks.Megabin system is running perfectly but still not complete,
They would also make great quail pens, quail/chick brooder pens, guinea pig pens, worm bins.....and deep grow beds.
Anyone else able to think of any other food production uses for mega bins?
Want to name them so that our other Melbourne members don't have similar troubles.Despite a couple of phone calls & emails to a Melbourne distributor I can still not get a price or approx delivery time for an additional GB + componentry....I've now totally given up on them after being as patient as possible for 15 weeks!....thats just poor service IMO.
Have you thought about these? They will grow most plants you're going to want (certainly all of the high value ones), they cost less to buy and they will require much less media (which also translates into less money) than most of the others that are in common use. You can buy them at most hydro shops.I will now go the DIY direction for an additional small GB.

G'day Gary,
I'd rather not name them publicly on a discussion thread.....but,
I would be happy to answer any questions Melbourne members have in PM's regarding the excellent service received from some Melbourne distributors as well as the problems I've had regarding other Melbourne distributors.
Cheers,
Shane.

I'm looking at various ways of fitting in a bed with the limited space left available.
I'll take some snaps & post them when I proceed.
I will have a look at the hydro shop locally too though.....thanks for the idea.
