    Silver Perch with Goldfish

My small flood & drain AP system, in Adelaide, is using an existing in-ground fish pond of about 9000 litres. It contains approx 40 pond bred gold fish ranging from 2cm to 20cm long. The system has been cycling well for three months and the vegies are doing well. Time to think of growing edible fish. Can I put silver perch fingerlings in with the gold fish? Will they co-exist sucessfully? If this works I will reduce the gold fish population as the SP's develop. Does anyone know of a source of SP's in South Aussie?
    Any help will be appreciated.

    Re: Silver Perch with Goldfish

currently have 10-15cm goldfish in with about twenty(?) silver perch and have not lost a goldfish yet. THe biggest perch may be about 20cm in size, but my water has a lot of tannins in it from the food I have so have not seen them for a while but no damage to any tails or fins.
Also have no idea where to get SP from in adelaide.
    Cheers Nick

    Re: Silver Perch with Goldfish

    Hi Peterall,

From my observations, Silver perch seem to be among the most amenable to living with fish of other species and sizes.

Having said that, most species are either practical or opportunistic carnivores.
