Hi,
The Garden Gurus TV gardening show featured a brief segment on aquaponics last night.
Aside from some misinformation about stocking rates (a bad habit they probably copied from some more experienced AP 'gurus') and the odd other technical faux pas (and the fact that the program was an advertorial for a business called Hydroponics Xpress), the segment served as a useful, if somewhat lightweight, introduction to aquaponics.
The program was also interesting for the fact that it pretty much featured off-the-shelf components that are available from your local hydroponics shop......including 150mm continuous flow plastic grow beds.
These little systems are likely to be the way of the future for many people. They are portable, affordable and easy to set up and operate.
With some basic mechanical and biological filtration, they would be no less capable of turning out useful quantities of clean fresh food than some of the much more expensive kit systems on the market.
I see that the segment has already got tongues clicking on other AP forums. While I agree with the notion that misinformation is not in the long term interests of aquaponics, the Garden Gurus certainly don't have a monopoly on that.
Check out the video.......here.
Gary
