    Fish cages bearing fruit

For the past several years my parents have had their heart set on quince fruit from the trees they planted on my property. Unfortunately the whitetail deer were nipping off the buds at night so, so far no fruit. Looks like that will change this year as my dad took some fish cages I wasn't using (I made them much too large when I first started raising fish in cages) and put them around the trees so the deer couldn't reach them. (They are open on top except for the top edges).

They aren't the most attractive thing in the world but they do the job.

Here are this year's blossoms that are just coming out. Or is it past that?

    Hi Cecil,

Every time I see a snow scene like yours, I'm impressed by its beauty.......but grateful that I don't have to grow fish or garden in it.

Guarding the quince trees are, no doubt, a fitting retirement for the cages. I must say that, if deer visited my yard, some of their number would find their way into my freezer.

Trust me it gets old although sometimes a big storm can make winter interesting.

Unfortunately Gary these deer only come through at night and when we do see them during the day it's not hunting season. Night time hunting is strictly forbidden for Whitetail Deer. If any shots rang out at night in my neighborhood it would probably be investigated.

Not really. The neighbor behind me is a retired policeman and complains about the noise I make as it is. He's complained about one of my compressors I used on one of the ponds and he's complained when I used a trash pump in the evening to drain one of my ponds. Never mind he's several hundred feet away. I try to appease him as it's always good to stay on the good side of neighbors.
