Hi,
I've put two 300 watt heaters into the Mega Bin System in anticipation of some warmer weather......and a move for my jade perch.
I measured the pH in the MBS and the Baby Q2 and there was too great a difference to entertain moving the fish........until I equalise things a bit.
In the coming days, I'll swap a bit of water around so that I equalise the pH.......and feed some ammonia and some nitrifying bacteria into the MBS.

Hi,
I re-commissioned the 1000 litre tank on the Baby Q (Mark 2) in anticipation of the arrival of 50 golden perch fingerlings later this week.
I'm still playing with the filtration module on this system, so I just mounted my two old faithful tricking bio-filters over the tank.
I love small recirculating aquaculture systems for their ease of set up and operation.

Hi,
The 50 golden perch (aka yellowbelly, callop) arrived yesterday from Ausyfish......in good order as usual.
Our mate Julie, who had also purchased some, dropped ours off and, with a gradual introduction over about 30 minutes, they were soon happily exploring the depths of their new home.
Golden perch have a reputation for being difficult to get started on pellet food. Our new arrivals are the Lake Eyre strain and have been weaned so I'm anticipating that they should go OK.

Hi,
My initial checks suggest that our new golden perch fingerlings are eating the tiny pellets we're providing for them.....or at least they swim over to where the pellets settle on the bottom of the tank.....so I hope they're eating them. It's a bit hard to see what's going on with 50 tiny fish in a 1,000 litre tank.

Gidday Gary ,would there be any benifit to you or the G Perch fingerlings,to house them in a floating basket until they perhaps grow bigger? You could moniter how much they are eating, a bit Closer maybe ? Cheers Steve A
Hi Steve,
Yes.....confining them to a small space would be useful.....but they're too small to contain in a laundry basket. Ideally, I'd use something about the size of a milk crate with a very small mesh size......big enough to allow the solids to fall through but small enough to prevent the fish from escaping.

Hi,
About 10 days after we go them, our golden perch seem to be eating well (hopefully not each other).
Rearing this species has been problematic for many people, so I'd like to break the mould and bring this batch to the kitchen table.
