Thumbs up Hi from a father and son team in Brisbane

Hello all. My 17 year son and I have embarked on an aquaponics journey. He first saw it on a gardening program where they were highlighting a system in Western Australia. My son who has been interested in aquariums was wrapped and after a discussion with his high school Biology teacher decided that he would create a mini system in the classroom which he successfully did.

To cut a long story short we have just finished putting the greenhouse plastic around our grow beds. It consists of a 1200L tank under the house linked to 4 bathtubs (GBs)up a level about 15m away. We planted 3weeks after running the system to build up bacteria. The glass tank has 70 fingerling silver perch and we have another 30 in a separate unlinked tank.

My son is looking into including red claw somehow to the system. Will need to investigate whether the perch will make a meal of them before we do.

Anyway we hope to chat to you at some stage and learn from those who have gone before us.
    Cheers and best wishes
    Rob and Matt

    Hi Rob & Matt,
    Welcome.
I hope you are able to post some pix of your system and some progress reports. It is always good to see a new system getting underway. I do not know much about red claw, but I am sure some others do.

For what it's worth, just about every fish will eat yabbies (or redclaw)....including Silver perch.
