    Hawaii aquaponics

    Hi everyone!

New here, so asking some questions.

I plan to do a semi commercial aquaponics system in Hawaii (Oahu island) I want to do a green house 25' wide by 55-60' long. I was going to use 2 600 gallon circular vats for tilapia (very popular in Hawaii). I was then going to connect 2-4 PVC pipes for lettuce (as i have seen a few times while researching) and 4-5 small kiddy pools (the walmart kind - i already have them and are plumbed from the bottom in the center) The sump will be at the end of the pools and pipes (all connected in 1 pipe) And then returned to the fish vats which will be then continue the gravity feed to the pools.

My main question - what can i do to secure the lettuce in the holes in the PVC pipes, and the other veggies in the grow beds? I plan to use river rocks (i live on a river!) and clay pebbles for the top few inches of it. I heard this is a good method for root structure?

I saw the little pots that have the slits in them but can't seem to find a source?

Also, i've heard of something for nitrification but can't find much on it. Is this the same as using bioballs in a tower for saltwater ? (i whole sale saltwater fish)

    Thank you very much!!!

    Aloha

    Re: Hawaii aquaponics

you can make net pots by reusing yogurt cups or you can buy the net pots at any hydroponic store.

if youre going commercial, the state might have issues with you using kiddie pools =)
