ya, it's been done, my first forum I joined when researching aquaponics has a system similar to this.
There was very little real information on this forum at that time, but it was a place to start.

It's both functional and attractive.
Back in our home state of South Australia, we had a window box that hung off of our kitchen. It was manufactured by the people who built the aluminium windows for our house.
From memory, it was about eight feet long and four feet deep......and about two feet wide.....and it had two shelves. We kept little rectangular planters full of herbs in it.
I've thought, several times, about replicating something similar for our existing house.
Her Serene Highness just looked over my shoulder as I typed this.....so I could be re-visiting this idea faster than I thought.
