    Hi,

Cecil hasn't been around much lately. He's a fish taxidermist and gets very busy at certain times of the year.

While the RBC is a very good bio-filter, given the amount of effort involved in making one and the amount of space that it takes up in a tank, I'd opt for a moving bed bio-filter.

The moving bed bio-filter would be no more expensive to build, has no moving parts and it would be equal to the RBC when it comes to nitrification.......and you have much greater flexibility in its placement.

I'm sorry Gary is right. I haven't been here much lately due to too many irons in the fire and my RAS' are used mainly in winter to hold fish over and get growth they wouldn't under the ice. Although I responded to your PM just now I will post an answer here too for the benefit of anyone else.

I got the polystyrene from a local plastic company in Ft. Wayne, IN. Impossible to get it as thin as the book requires but it makes no difference. They cut it into squares for me and then I cut it into circles.

I didn't use the Kalwal stuff either. Instead used a plastic wall board that was sold at a local Menards. Worked fine.

The other plates are cut out of either fiberglass roofing or PVC roofing. Both work the same and I was able to get the PVC roofing cheaper on sale to build my second RBC.

Thanks for asking! A little stressed being president of my state aquaculture association; I also do the newsletter, and there's lots of taxidermy work to get caught up on. I had a bout of bronchitis or walking pneumonia that caused me to get even farther behind.

Still working on the writing craft; the ponds and fish raising helps me keep my sanity.

I think that sometimes it threatens mine.

I can relate to your sense of the pace of life. I'm struggling to reconcile all of the things that demand my time.

Well there's the other extreme: people that sit on their front porches and watch the cars go by every day. I don't understand how someone can have so little to do, and boy would that be boring!

    Gary,

You need to get what you need to get done and take a breather. That's the key. Also know when not to over commit and to say, "No!" But I still fall off the wagon on that one!

After the day I had today it sounds nice to just sit on the porch and wave as everyone goes by in a hurry...LOL

I've had worse days than that. I've had days where I would have been better staying in bed. LOL

Also being self employed I have days where I feel I am just spinning my wheels. People that work for others are elated when the last day of the week comes. I'm dismayed and wonder what I've been doing all week!
