    Quail set up's

Folks, these little birds have me interested, and I have a question for you. When I build my house I intend setting up a chicken coop are with largeish runs. I would like to do the same with some quail (I'm on 2.5 acres) What do you think of an avery with a fair size run off it, it will be grassed and have lots of cover. Will the quail breed in there ok? I'm not looking at breeding heaps of birds, just enoght for a feed and any excess will be used to feed my pythons. Any thoughts?

    Hi Bakes,

You can run quail in an aviary structure but its design will need to acknowledge that sudden upward flight is a feature of quail behaviour. This can result in broken necks and/or scalping.

Our quail pens have always had relatively low headroom for this reason.

You won't (generally speaking) be able to breed quail without an incubator since quail usually won't sit on their own eggs.

Quail have been bred in captivity for centuries and lend themselves well to living in small pens.
