Half barrel grow bed drain question

    Aloha from Hawaii

I am just starting to build my first system. I am planning to use 55 gal drums cut in half for my grow beds. I have cut them 90 opposite the casting lines which leaves a bung at the bottom of the side of each barrel. I am thinking of putting the drains into these bungs as they are already threaded rather than drilling holes and placing drains on the very bottom of the bed.

It seems like if I put the drain in the bung on the side, it will always leave an inch or two of water standing in the very bottom of the bed. I am planning to put a half section of 4" drain pipe with slots at the bottom of the bed anyway but I am wondering if this amount of standing water will have an adverse effect on the system.

Any thoughts or experience would be appreciated.

    Aloha.

    No.....it won't matter at all.
