    My $18 Biopod

    Gday all,
Thought Id have a go at making a BSF biopod.
I bought a blue barrel at a garage sale for $3 so thought that would do.
Used some old 25mm plastic pipe for the ramps and just used "Sikoflex" ($15) to make it ramplike, the other bits and pieces you can find behind the shed or under the workbench.
    I reckon she's a beauty.....commercial quality at least.

    Cheers......Lindsay FNQ

PS..not real sure about this but I think I have attached pics

    Hi bigdog,

It's remarkable what you can do with blue barrels.

Have you incorporated some sort of drain into the bottom of your BSF farm? The leachate stinks to high heaven.

    Thanks for that Gary,

Yep, if yu look at the pic where I have it finished and sitting in the cnr, you will see the drain goes into a plastic watercan, the collection tube goes to a small sealed bucket that I have put a little inspection window in.
Trouble is the rain up here, (about 5mtr per annum) so everything has to be protected and sealed.

A funny thing, when I was putting the finishing touches (fixing the rain hood on), it took me a couple of minutes to realise the fly annoying me was actually a BSF trying to get inside the tub, I kid you not, I actually called out to Chookie to come look.

I will only put greens in the tub, do you think it will still pong ?....I have started it of with a bag of cow poo.

My other finished project is the "ChookPlucker" (plucks 3 chooks in 20sec)
When I find the appropriate forum for that I will post pics for those interested.

Yep.......it will still stink.....but less than if you are putting meat in it. You'll have to put something putrid in it to get the BSF there in the first place.......something like some bread and sour milk.

Once it settles down, and you are harvesting plenty of larvae for your chooks, you'll learn to live with it. Our chickens now only get BSF larvae and some scratch grain......aside from what they pick up when free ranging. Although we provide pellets, they hardly eat any.

    Ha Ha Ha,,
Yu dont want to go down the same street as me...//
The plucker cost about $1,000, bought the finger wheel, fingers, and axle thingy from USA. (post cost more than the items).
1 hp motor got off the net.
Big (18') pulley cost about $150.

So all up it was a very expensive project.......if....IF i make another (God knows why) it will be about $200 worth. Im just very impatiant.

How does it work ???..........Stuffed if I know I havent got any chooks.

    Cheers..........Bigdog

    Hey Bigdog

It may be a funny question but it seems like a lot of money time and effort, for a garden sculpture No chickens

    Gday Amo,

No, not really......you see we are selling up here, for a multitude of reasons and moving down south (somewhere around Port Macquarrie NSW)
See our house....Nup cancel that, Thought id be smart and put our house in but it didnt work....oh well. Its on "No agent property" ID is 47224.

Need acouple of acres down south so I can have my dogs, chooks, ducks, fish and vegies.
While I am waiting to sell I keep on with my projects....."Chookplucker" was just one of those projects.

    Cheers.......Lindsay...(Bigdog)
