    Krisko's bigger and better system!

    Heyas,

Well a few weeks ago i posted my very cute little system with 10 goldfish and a 35 litre tray full of capsicum and chilli. As predicted, the addiction has taken hold and i needed something bigger.

After half a day of digging i now have this nice pond which should hold around 2700-3000 litres of water. i have 7 of these 35litre trays (6 visible) and a nice big bathtub to plant some tasty vegies in.

Next week i will getting a bunch of yabbies and marron from http://www.suburbanfarmer.com.au/ to start me off and i already have some seeds germinating for corn, capsicum, chilli, zucchini, rockmelon, tomato, peas, coriander, lemon, basil, thmye, and even an avocado tree.

I have a giant air pump and a 3500LPH pump yet to go in. Also need to plumb up the grow beds, havent decided what to do with that yet.

Keen as to hear your input!

    Hi Krisko,

it's hard to stop once you get goin, I'm always tinkering with my setup and now adding extensions also.

Good stuff with the bigger fish tank. I think it's much better to have a good size fish tank to help even out temp swings, in the ground is great insulation also.

Are you thinking about constant flow or flood and drain setup.

    God bless froggo.

    Hey froggo,

I plan on doing continous flow, I started doing the plumbing up today and it should all fit together nicely.

Had barramundi for dinner tonight. Got me super excited to grow my own.

At the most you are going to have ~ 500 litres of growbed to around 3000 litres of water....I hope you like the colour of green water.

Thats the colour it is going to be.

You need an absolute minimum of 1500 litres of growbed to maintain any sort of decent water clarity, especially coming into summer.

    Hey outbackozzie,

I Definetly intend to continue adding GBs. I did not plan to stock the pond very heavily due to being quite new to this. Are you saying that the size of the pond, even only lightly stocked (say 20-30fish), will be difficult to keep the water clear with my currenty limited grow beds?

Yup, exactly. Unless you shade the water dramatically, you will get green/murky.

The whole time my big system has been operating I have struggled with water clarity, simply not enough filtration capacity.

    Plenty of nitrification area though.
