    Question Feeding for Omega-3 levels

Does anyone have any experience (or knowledge of) different food types and their effects on the Omega-3 levels in freshwater cultured fish (and crustaceans)??
I noticed a mention of high levels of Omega-3 (DHA)in Jade Perch while browsing the forums... which set me to thinking
I understand that fish are unable to synthesize significant amounts Omega-3 (DHA) and (in the wild) obtain it from micro algae. So diet would affect Omega-3 levels(?)
I found some Wikipedia references to sources for Omega-3 (1, 2) I wonder what sort of levels are found in the sort of fish food used by contributors to this forum.

    Hi Sunnyside,
This link will take you to a site that makes the claim about a study done by the CSIRO on Jade Perch re Omega-3
    http://www.ausyfish.com/omega-3.htm

As to the text of the actual study, I will need to do some more looking to come up with the actual study and the type of foods fed to the fish in question.
An excellent question....I must find the answer...

This is totally from memory, so take it with a grain of salt. But i think i have read that chickens who get to forage for food (i.e. particularly insects) produce eggs with higher omega 3 content.

This may be a direction to investigate. i.e. BSF larvae may increase Omega 3 content.
