Thread: Raising Chooks

    Re: Raising Chooks

I have 3 red isas, a black cross chick 18 week old and a ancuna so the kids have some eggs that are a bit different. The reds are lovely and lay an egg each just about every day.

I dont have any meat birds yet - do you do the deed yourselves or do you get help in from someone for that? I currently eat approx 4 boneless skinless breasts a week, I guess that would mean a heap of birds were needed?

I dont think I am ready for this yet

    Hi Vivienne,

Yes, Jan and I process our own chickens. It's not the most pleasant of tasks but it comes with the business of growing your own meat. The upside of doing it ourselves is that we have total of the whole process from the cradle to the grave......and, for us, that's what integrated backyard food production is all about......taking control of what we eat.

I dont think I am ready for this yet
When you're ready we'll guide you through the process.
