pH and Its Effect on Nutrient Availability

    Hi,

I've just put up blog post on pH and its effect on nutrient availability.....here!

Getting a good grip on pH and how it works is central to successful aquaponics. Dr James Rakocy refers to pH as the 'master variable" because of the way that it impacts so many other plant production parameters.

So a well stocked AP system running a low 6's will have a constant ammonia reading, but it's not toxic....interesting.

I am noticing that with my system at the moment, the pH has dropped right down to 6.2, and the shells are not bringing it back up, plant growth is marvellous, especially since I have been adding urea to get some nitrates. I dont have enough fish.

If I grow a lemon tree can I continue to add the urea in the traditional way?
