    Hi guys,
Does anyone know where I can get some trout fingerlings? I live in central Victoria. Is it too late in the year to get some? What are they worth roughly? Thanx

Re: Trout Fingerlings and UV light

    Hi guys,
I rang the man in ballarat and he says he has yearlings for sale. My question is how many should I get for a 800 Lt tank. Also I am having trouble in that my pH seems to be rising. I got a reading of 8.4 the other day which I was very surprised at as my pH normally sits around 7.4. I dosed it with white vinegar and got it back to 7.6 but I checked again today and it is back up to 8.2. Why?
I have recently installed a UV light that a friend had on his goldfish pond and no longer needed. He said it is good for sterilizing the water. Can this be causing my pH spike? I intend on picking up the trout on Saturday morning so I need answers to my problem ASAP. Thanx

    Re: Trout Fingerlings

    Thanx Fishfood,
My system has been running for over 6 months with no dramas.
My setup has two tanks, a small one (Approx 250 Lts) which is under the grow bed. The growbed consists of scoria which is well rinsed after 6 mths of use.
The second tank at the back is approx. 800 lts and is fed by a pump in the smaller tank and then overflows into the smaller tank. The pump also disperses water over the grow bed on a timer which on for 15 mins and off for 15 mins. This works between 7am and 11pm. There are airstones working 24 hrs in both tanks.
I have 18 small goldfish in the smaller tank and have recently (over a month now) added the second larger tank with the hope of using it for some food fish.
As I said earlier my pH was OK until the last week. I am taking some water in to test at work tonight with pH meter in case my test kit is giving me false readings. The only other change I have done is added the greenhouse over a month ago to try and keep the temp and weather under some kind of control.
