A suggestion for maintaining all of the locations and making it really easy to see who is nearby to us...

You can create a Google Spreadsheet that seemlessly integrates with Google Maps. Therefore, all you have to do is update the information in the Google Spreadsheet, and everyone can see that change on the Google Map.

You could then embed the Google Map onto a page for everyone to see!

To keep peoples addresses private, what you do is simply enter their Suburb, and not their exact address. In the address field (in the spreadsheet), you simply put the Suburb, State. Each placemarker (location) can then have further details about the system - for example, it can say "Jeff's system, 4 grow beds, 2000L tank, email me@here.com for more info". It can even contain images. It can also contain a URL link - so if the person has a forum thread or website about their system, it can link to that.

Using Google Spreadsheets, you can also give other people access to edit it, so it would be easy to distribute the maintance of the list.

View the second video on this page for detailed instructions on how this is done. It is actually relatively easy - http://earth.google.com/outreach/tut...readsheet.html

If needed, I can assist with setting up the spreadsheet.

    Cheers, Andrew.

P.S. My system is in Karana Downs, QLD. It (will be) a Patio Quad kit with an Autopot system attached as well. Still around 6 odd weeks away before I get started though.

Hi Andrew, I would be most pleased if you were to produce such a map.

Hi Murray - not a problem. I will put together the spreadsheet and map and post all of the details here.

If anyone would like to have the ability to edit the spreadsheet - pm me your Google Account email address and I will give you the ability to edit it. If you do not have a Google Account, you can signup for one here.

    Cheers, Andrew.

A version 1 has started! Here is the Google Maps link to Aquaponic installations around the world.

The map data is managed from a Google Spreadsheet - if you would like access to it to update your data directly, let me know your Google Account email address. If you would like me to enter/update your details, pm me your details (see all of the available fields below)

I have initially filled in the data from what was already posted in this forum.

All information provided is publicly viewable. Name and address are the only required fields, all the rest are optional. For the address, Suburb/State is all that is required. However, if you want the map to accurately represent exactly where you are, you will need to also provided a street name and number.

    Data fields -

    Name:
Address: Suburb/State is fine if you want to protect your street address.
Description of your system and how people can contact you:
URL for photo of your system:
    Link1 text:
    Link1 URL:
    Link2 text:
    Link2 URL:

    Using the map

When you view the map, try clicking on "North Maclean - Murray", you will see an example that shows an image, description of system and a couple of links. The "bubble window" that appears with all of the info isn't quite wide enough and it has an image. Not sure about that issue yet, will have to play a little with the settings.

On the left, if you click on "Australia/QLD" it will zoom the map to show all of the people in that state. You can click on a bubble from the left or on the map to see the details of that system.

    It's a start!

    Cheers, Andrew.
