    Black solider fly

    Hi,

I have a three level warm farm container (the basic type that you can buy at most gardening/ hardware shops) that has been taken over by the black soldier fly. Apart from there being no way for the maturering larve to escape, I have noticed that the black soldier fly dispel alot of waste liquid, similar to what was meant to happen if there was worms within this system.
Does anyone know if this waste liquid is as useful as the worm waste liquid?
Also, for people using the Bio-pod or similar set ups with BSF, how do you remove this waste liquid from the set-up?
    Thanks,
    Peter.

The biopod has a plastic jar under it that you unscrew and dispose of the contents. I flush mine away as it is putrid and I can do without the stench.

    Hi,

I kept forgetting to empty the plastic leachate container on my BioPod and whenever I'd empty it I'd get the liquid on my hands. While the liquid is supposedly an attractant for soldier flies, it has exactly the opposite effect on human females......so I just leave it off and allow the leachate to drain into the soil. I've found that the larvicast in my BioPod is a bit drier and much less obnoxious since I started leaving the container off.

The leachate from a worm farm is of doubtful value (despite what some people believe) and I imagine that leachate from a BioPod is similar (and it stinks enough not to want to spread it around too much.

You can remove the larvae from your worm farm and feed them to your chickens......or just throw them onto the ground where they will bury themselves while they undergo metamorphosis into a fly.
