    Tomato - 'Riesentraube'.

    Tomato - 'Riesentraube' (Lycopersicon esculentum).

Name translates as 'giant grapes', huge bunches of 20-40 cherry type fruit.
Pear shaped with a rich low acid flavour.
    German breeding (1850).
    Indeterminate grows to 2.5m.
    Relatively coolstart (cold tolerant).

I saw this type of tomato plant for the first time yesterday,
Soooooo.....I just had to grab one & pop it into one of my GB's

Has anyone tried growing this 'Riesentraube' variety of tomato before?
    Cheers,
    Shane.

I'm not familiar with Riesentraube, but I do like to grow little (cherry/grape) tomatoes. They seem to grow faster, handle cooler weather better and give you a decent crop for a small plant. My favorite variety to grow is called Tiny Tim.

Yes, I like them for small salads that I pack to eat with lunch at work.
I also picked up another cherry tomato plant last weekend, this one I'll grow in dirt..I'll put it either in a pot or a hanging basket as it doesn't need staking (as its branches cascade over). Its called 'Tumbling Tom Red'.

Well the 'Riesentraube' continues to grow well in my RHS GB of the main unit.
Whilst all my other Tommies are beginning to fruit....the Riesentraube is flowering but not yet fruiting.
Last night I hand pollinated with a small paintbrush.

....we'll see if that does the trick !

    Cheers,
    Shane.

    The Riesentraube continues to grow,
& I gather that the hand pollination has helped somewhat, with it now beginning to produce its first lot of fruit.

    Still growing, flowering & fruiting.
It needs a little more support, got my hands on an old wooden ladder that I think I'll let it grow up through.

    Cheers,
    Shane.
