Grew some for the first time in AP this year. For the record, we planted 10 seedlings per bathtub. Grew to 6ft within a couple of months. We got at least 2 ears off each plant and 3 off some of them. The cobs were not quite as big as supermarket stuff but plenty for 2 serves per cob. No, I can't remember the variety but they tasted great, generally cooked in foil with butter on the bbq.
Next time I will put climbing beans in with them to maximise the yield further.

Hi aussieap,
I regularly grow corn and it is always a good performer.
Lately, the King Parrots have decided that they like it better.
A couple of pix from my website (http://aquaponics.net.au/blog/)

The demolished corn cob. Note the black ants in there getting their share of the sweet juices.

Evidently tomato and corn go well together. After feeding on the corn it retired to the tomato bush for dessert.
