I have a tank full of Jades all getting up to the size of your hand. If someone is interested in making me an offer for them.
Seeing that I am going to be moving in the next 4 weeks and despite the legalities of moving Jade Perch to NSW - the trip of 6+ hours would probably kill them at this size.
I started out with about 120 of them - I know I lost 3 early on and have not had any floaters since - but im not sure if any were eaten by other fish along the way.
The fingerlings cost me $120 and I have pumped about 2 bags of feed into them which I think is about $80 per bag. So if I could recover my cost that would be good.
Whoever gets these should be eating Jade Perch in a couple of months.

If you are willing to break them up Hamish I will take 20 or so at the price you would like. I understand if you would prefer to sell them as a total lot.

I have purchased the rest of Hamish's Jade Perch with Murray getting 20
Any ideas on transporting them to Chandler -about 40mins drive
- would a 80l rubbish bin with aerator be ok for 100 fish about hand size??

Tom,
I have got a 900 ltr tank with baffles and a bilge pump arrangement you can borrow if you like.
I will be using it to get the 20.
It fits onto a standard box trailer.
I will be using this to get some trout come Feb.
Smaller than that I have a 100 ltr esky with a built in bilge pump, but I think that might be too small for about 80 fish.

I really think 100L will be way too small - there is quite a mass of fish to move and very lively. Tom - Murrays baffled tank sounds the go!

Thanks Murray - the larger tank will do - I am thinking this Sat as I will be down that way for a social engagement
( xmas breakup breakfast for the Tamborine Sustainable Gardeners Club).
What about I pick it up mid morning (not sure of exact time) -go to Hamish - come back by with your fish - proceed home - and return the tank Sunday??
My trailer is 7'x5' so should fit ok

After Hamish's tragedy, I collected 150 Jade Perch fingerlings last week
from SEQ Fish. Matt is a real nice guy to deal with and I recommend
the company. The fish were $1.00 each for that number.
They came home ok but I killed one as I left it in the bag! Must CHECK the
bag is empty next time

Is it possible to get Jade Perch fingerlings here in the USA?
Am I just a starry eyed dreamer? When Murray mentioned the high Omega-3 fatty acid content of Jade Perch I've been suffering fish envy ever since.
Tilapia have been allowed just about everywhere on earth, so I don't see why Jade Perch couldn't start popping up on menus here in the States.

My advice would be to try and approach a local fish hatchery in your area and ask them about Jade Perch. This fish is relatively unknown to most Australians (and Americans) as it has not even been very well marketed in its home state as the health benefits have only recently been discovered. I believe Jade Perch can be shipped to the USA without restriction but the shipping fee is quite expensive. Warm water is essential and a breeding program would need to be instituted to maintain sufficient stock. This would be a golden opportunity for a hatchery in the USA to look into this terrific fish full of Omega 3 fatty acids. I think you may have to wait a bit until the rest of the world discovers this fish.
I'm getting 50 Jade Perch in a couple of days time! We are very lucky in Queensland, Australia. :D

Thanks Castaway.
I think this is a great opportunity for marketing such a beneficial food source. The perch in America taste exquisite so if the Jade perch tasty then it should be smash hit.

Excellent idea organicusrex!
When I read up on the potential of the Jade Perch, I got pretty excited as well.
I'm a bit of a jump from you (in NJ), but if you find a hatchery anywhere in the U.S. please let me know.
Thanks,
