Hey guys,

I was just wanting to link up those of us in Victoria to share information and contacts. I find its sometimes easier to talk to local people. No offence to people from other states I just seem to be able to find suppliers for everything in every other state but not in Victoria.

For example I am looking for a fish supplier for silver perch and would rather go local than have to fly my fish from interstate hatcheries, Due to cost as well as lowering fish stress.

Does anyone actually buy their fingerlings from Victorian sources already because I would love to know where from.

Thanks Erica

If you do a search in the Fish area you will find some more references to Vic suppliers.

Thanx murray,

I really should keep reading before asking questions although there is so much info on this site that even after reading everyday for the past 4 weeks I am still not even half way there.

Would still be nice to see what people in victoria are doing with their systems.

Erica

Eri, I have been growing silver perch the past 2 years. They are a slow process but very hardy. Do you have a system running yet? John at Glenwaters (he advertises in the Weekly Times) will have silvers in January. If I was you, wait til end of March and get trout. They will grow out over winter and your winter vegies will be fantastic. Snobs Creek Trout Farm will help you. They are the largest in Vic and know their stuff. Expect to pay $1.70 for 6 inch trout. Don't get them now, they will cook in the warm summer water temps.
