Hi!

I would like to seek ideas and opinion on whether this product is any better and cost effective compared to other bio-filtering methods.

Hi Wey2Go,

I've emailed the manufacturer so we'll know more once they respond.

With trickling bio-filter media, the important figure is the number of square metres of surface area per cubic metre of the media. At 250 square metres per cubic metre this product is not especially high but there may be other features which make it worthy of further consideration.

was at a barra facility in Geelong today. They use that biofilter, it comes in length tubes as blocks however long.
One comment was that it also acts as a heat transfer source for the water. May not matter up where it is warm year round, but down here, these guys are spending big money each month to keep the water warm. Trickling thru the bio causes heat transfer, they haven't quantified it, but the water coming out is cooler than the water going in.

Some of it looks like the pipe they make out of old tyres. wonder what it weighs. Just if it was not much then you could have it inside a chamber and pump air into it and it lifts out of the water. Then slowly goes back down. Like dunking a tea bag. :D
